  • We’re already at the point where Windows programs sometimes run better on Linux with a compatibility layer (WINE/Proton) than they do natively. The stuff that doesn’t run is mostly games ladened with kernel-level DRM that Linux (rightfully) can’t emulate.

Linux even runs old Windows programs better than Windows itself, and long-term compatibility is supposed to be one of Windows’ biggest selling points.

  • I agree with you that societal rules are mostly arbitrary bullshit. Communication and consent are the important things. Your relationship should work the way its participants all agree on.

You might want to edit your original post though. You’re probably getting downvoted so heavily because without that context it sounds like you were cheating on an unknowing partner and couldn’t see any problem with it.

  • If you’re open about it ahead of time, that’s not cheating. Cheating is when you go behind your partner’s back with someone outside of the established relationship.

Relationships are built on trust and establishing boundaries. Cheating (as the name indicates) breaks both of these. It’s completely different from an open relationship due to one missing and very important component: consent. If your partner is okay with it, have all the (safe) sex you want. But going behind a loyal partner’s back and breaking their trust is of course going to hurt them.

Even if they would have been okay with an open relationship, you not asking beforehand will have them wondering why you hid it from them, if they did something wrong, if they’re not good enough for you, if you ever loved them at all, and what else you might be doing behind their back. Your betrayal will have destroyed their trust in you, and rebuilding the relationship will be an uphill battle if it’s even possible at all.

  • Yeah, they’ve been working on a major update/overhaul for like a year or two now. In addition to the metalworking and a few other crafting types, it also properly adds hunting and animal husbandry. Also basements and real 3D lighting (shit’s dark at night, but light sources are way better since light bounces around corners now), but I think that might have snuck into the main branch since the feature was fully finished ages ago. Either way the game’s future looks amazing.

The one thing I don’t like is how they’re making it even harder for solo players since metalworking, clay, wood working, liquids/chemistry etc are each full-time jobs with many steps and - just like electricity - are a pain to pick up and train if you didn’t start with proficiency in them. Luckily the sandbox settings have us solo players (mostly) covered.

Most historical figures would be short by our standards. Modern diets and easy availability of cheap nutrition have added multiple inches to the average height - several when compared to civilizations where famines were common (see pictures of the Korean DMZ with North Korean soldiers next to South Korean ones).
