Technology@lemmy.world•Palantir CEO Says a Surveillance State Is Preferable to China Winning the AI RaceEnglish
21·7 days agoI wonder if this is a “Star Trek is a conservative show” sort of thing. Like he’s genuinely not smart enough to actually understand what is right in front of him.
That is exactly what this is, conservatives pride themselves on having a toddler’s sense of media literacy, especially the men.
It is a reoccuring pattern enough that I have seen multiple video essays on the general topic that try to unpack the different reasons because it is so confounding from the perspective of being a normal well adjusted adult.
I think it is a part of the same core thing as conservative humor being embarassingly bad, formulaic, weirdly cruel to specific groups and just plain not funny almost as a rule.

The human passengers weren’t responsible for driving the vehicle, their lack of awareness is a feature of getting a taxi ride?

You have so much misplaced faith in these massive corporations…

2·12 days agoWhat you aren’t taking into account how much the US social safety net has hollowed out since the dotcom crash.
This is going to be very bad, I wouldn’t waste words speculating about the extent of the damage, we haven’t seen this kind of shock hit such a fragile US society. There is no resilience left in the US people to climb out of a big economic crash, things will just shatter.
The dotcom crash was a process of a period of vibrant growth and opportunity smashing into a wall, this is different… this is much worse, it is like a runner already in terrible shape collapsing in the middle of a marathon from their body shutting down, AI is just the acute symptom of a much more worrying disease where the ruling class is attempting to hallucinate itself out of the consequences of their divestment from any functional social safety for the rest of the country.

2·12 days agoThe AI bubble will pop, but will likely be more like the doctom crash than the 2008 one. It isn’t as interconnected with the rest of the economy.
This is going to age like milk.

Technology@lemmy.world•New Study: At Least 15% of All Reddit Content is Corporate Trolls Trying to Manipulate Public OpinionEnglish
92·14 days agoIn some pockets yes, but travelling through reddit to find those pockets is like wandering through a sandcastle falling into the sea to find the handful of luxurious dry pristine rooms left.
The nicer the rooms are the sadder it makes you to know it is all for naught and is being washed away in front of your very eyes.
I used to go to reddit often for niche information, these days it barely feels worth the trouble even when there is no alternative source for the information anymore/yet.

Technology@lemmy.world•New Study: At Least 15% of All Reddit Content is Corporate Trolls Trying to Manipulate Public OpinionEnglish
61·14 days agoTrue, but to me that indicates the people enshittifying Reddit to pump and dump it for short term profit did a good job of sowing enough confusion and distrust that it obscured all the bots pouring in. They leaned into a culture of fakeness and inhumanness in developing Reddit as a for-profit entity.

Technology@lemmy.world•Microsoft Teams can record office presence from DecemberEnglish
11·20 days agoSince consumers hate AI, the only way to keep the bubble going is by pivotting hard to selling worker surveillance software to businesses and trying to normalize the culture of it, Microsoft is a loser company.
Previously, Teams already offered the option to manually set the work location. This is intended, for example, to help colleagues orient themselves in a large office complex or on a campus. With the upcoming update, this process will be automated by the software determining – likely by comparing details such as the IP address or MAC address of the router – whether one is actually on-site.
ahahahaha what a bullshit excuse
