Well how are you going to get rid of the ghosts if you don’t consume them? You pour it drain and now the drain is haunted and you have to hire a plumber who’s also a practicing priest. Its a very rare job description and I’ve only ever heard of one. He doesn’t come cheap. You’d think it’s a scam if it weren’t for the water ghosts.

I wanted to make a cheap joke about getting the ghosts out by boiling the hell out of it but I wound up in a rabbithole about supercritical water. It turns out you can boil the hell into water. With a lot of heat and pressure water can dissolve rock, oil and gas dissolve into the water easily, and if you put organic waste into really angry water that shit will burn. Underwater! It even destroys PFAS and prions!

Oddly when I ask people like this too many questions they find it difficult to explain their beliefs with any specificity. Questions like “what is energy,” or “how exactly does the tetractys connect to quantum physics,” or “how can we apply any of this knowledge in a falsifiable way?”

Addicts often commit other crimes, but the addiction is a function of the exposure to (and therefore trafficking of by other people) addictive substances. Cops actually love to hassle addicts, so long as they’re homeless addicts. It hasn’t solved any problems. But tackling drug trafficking is scary and dangerous because it turns out drugs are profitable and traffickers have loads of money and power.

I hope I never lose someone close to me in a way that gets memed on. John Edward Jones was a father expecting a second child, a brother, a husband, and a son. He was trapped in the cave a few days before Thanksgiving. I can only imagine how horrible it was for his family.

Flexibility. The ability to prioritize. like what if you realize you have no clean towels, but your washing machine is full of other clothes?

You’re right that it would be ideal to simply wash the dishes before they accumulate, but I often find myself in situations where I don’t want to do dishes before and after I cook. Moving the tub takes 5 seconds, washing the accumulated dishes might take 5 minutes, and if all you wanna do is rinse some berries and make oatmeal before you run out the door taking 5 minutes to do dishes might not be on the table.

Ultimately the dish tub and keeping the sink clear is a strategy I learned to avoid domestic blockers. Regardless of what everyone else in the house is doing, I need to be able to use the sink without doing a bunch of extraneous labor first. And getting mad at them for being lazy or messy or whatever might feel good but it doesn’t solve my problem. There are edge benefits like the fact that I never find accidental mold in my sink, which is nice from a hygiene perspective, but mostly it’s that I want to be able to use the damn sink when I want to use the damn sink.

It might be normal, that doesn’t mean it’s correct. I mean, your house, your rules, but imo the sink is a workspace and not a storage space. Same reason I put my clothes in the hamper instead of directly into the washing machine.

Any sink filled with dishes will accumulate water. I don’t understand what’s hard to imagine about dishes being haphazardly stacked in such a way that it makes it difficult to see what is underneath.

A dish tub is a tub in which you put your dishes. It’s like a bus tub but smaller. It’s useful because it stores dishes outside of the sink, and you can also use it to presoak. They’re honestly pretty killer if your apartment doesn’t come with a double sink. Someday I will have a triple sink, but for now I use the landlord special and a plastic tub.

Common was a bad choice of wording. ‘Not uncommon’ probably would have been a better way to put it. It’s more prevalent in certain cultures, often brought by immigrants from less economically developed regions. There are historical reasons for this, and we could get into the sociology of it, but the point is that where these people’s parents or grandparents came from, rinsing meat made practical sense. Industrial agriculture and cold chain logistics remove any benefit to washing meat, but culture doesn’t turn on a dime.

Important to note that “washing” chicken sometimes involves a brine and citrus soak, which is closer to marinating if you ask me but they call it washing the chicken. Washing under the faucet is just a bad idea but people do it and they mostly don’t die. Another argument for breaking down socioeconomic barriers, I suppose.
