As an aside that’s one of the major things I’ve never understood about how SCOTUS developes rulings, ie: how they use ‘original intent’ to figure out current issues.

Government Executive reports that the SSA memo proposes ceasing payments that are made to people without Social Security numbers. While people without an SSN are not eligible to receive Social Security benefits of their own, there are scenarios where they can accept benefits on behalf of an eligible person who does have an SSN as that person’s “representative payee.”

It may be that the OP read that and extrapolated it to mean orphans would be cut off … which may or may not be true.

I worked a job where I had to have an app that tracked me wherever I went. I finally had to tell my boss I couldn’t use it anymore because it was killing my battery in like 3 hours.
If I was still working and a job wanted me to put an app on my personal phone I’d tell them to go fuck themselves.
Just another way capitalists thieve money from its workers.
Except in the good ol’ days just about everything on the 'net benefited most of us in some way … and it was free. Now it sure as hell ain’t free and it’s been co-opted to benefit billionaires only.
I started torrenting 23 years ago and it was easy. Just a client, no VPN required. Now I need not only a VPN, but a good router that I can flash with firmware, hours of working out how best to set up the router with wireguard etc, then scroll through dozens of links to try and find a stable stream to watch hockey.
It’s fucking exhausting.
Like watching a UFC match and a hockey game breaks out.
Some localities in Germany have been incorporating Linux into their systems for 20+ years.
That may explain why the financial benefits seem low.
