Yea I just watched the whole thing. One of my favorite things I’ve heard recently is people arguing if Charlie was a good debater or not.

One person just said “did he ever once change his mind?” There isn’t one time in the past decade he has changed his mind. Charlie was not debating.

What pisses me off is how their wasn’t an effort to collect material for times like this for us to repost. Sure there’s content but everybody on the left checks out and doesn’t bother to archive anything worthwhile. I think that hurts us in the end

No, I didn’t get on the Internet for those things. They came to the Internet because it’s the easiest way for ideas to spread.

You can say you’re above it all, but you can’t really avoid it. Maybe twenty years ago, when things were quieter, that might have worked. But not today. I honestly can’t understand how anyone thinks they can escape politics online by just running to different corners of the Internet.

People aren’t going to get bored and just leave. That’s not how it works anymore. The only thing that slows the spread of ideas is resistance and right now, because so many people checked out, that resistance is weak. And in that vacuum, things have grown worse: women lost abortion rights, the right is close to branding the left as terrorists, budgets for prisons, police, and the military keep going up, and those forces are being used against cities that oppose them. They’ve taken over nearly all social media, shaping what your friends and family see every day.

Thinking they’ll get tired of all that power and influence and just walk away isn’t realistic. And acting indifferent only makes it easier for them to keep winning ground.

We’re watching the world slip further and further into the opinion that Charlie Kirk was a good man. There’s no resistance to anything they say anymore because we’re all on Lemmy and mastodon where nobody but us are.

Yea this is a trend with Lemmy and other left leaning spaces. Seems to be a push to convince the left to reject technology in so many new areas. It’s crazy to watch the left go from early adopters and being on the bleeding edge of things then shift to modern Luddites

Good point about Canada. They flipped. Meaning the conservatives were in the lead by a lot. The only thing that stopped them was Trump fucking up. This is the same almost everywhere. The Lefts victory’s have not been because of their policy or engagement with the people. The left has been winning only when the right fuck up. Any other time the right has captured dominant positions in many key areas. Vice versa, the left are hobbling themselves at every turn while slowly dismantling themselves.
