2·16 days agoIts a race to beat Kevin O’Leary’s terrible fuckover of Mattel when he sold his dot com bubble scam to them.
They paid 4 billion (7+ billion adjusted for inflation) and 16 months later sold it for $0 and still took hundreds of millions in losses. lol

End of the day, Facebook is that desperate for engagement. They’ll allow anything to happen on the platform.

22·22 days agoSeems to only work on Amazon.com. My .ca info isnt shared. It says the following though:
"Make Amazon even more personal to you
Your other AI assistants have learned about you. Bring that knowledge here for an even more personalized experience."
I think I’ll go chuck my computer and iot devices into a dumpster now.

41·22 days agoAi isn’t even close to replacing a job yet. Its not even cheaper than a human. Anyone going into a field that people are fleeing due to Ai will be in huge demand when we move on to the next scam cycle.
Tech layoffs in the last few years arent jobs being replaced with Ai, they are from the massive amounts of overhiring that occured in 2020-2021

12·23 days agoI wanted to buy some razor blades and the poor teenager at the Walmart just couldn’t get his magnet key thingie to unlock the plastic lock on the hanger holding the packages. I waited patiently for like 5 minutes and was like look I’ll fix it. I pulled down on the packaging, tore the little cardboard piece and freed the blades in like one try.
I then still paid $40 for them like a good citizen and ignored how much I was getting ripped off.
All while being watched by a million store cameras, three people at the self checkout, the camera reflecting my own image in the self checkout machine, the greeter giving me a dirty look and the detectors at the door.
Its more absurd than airport security how pointless it all is.

1·1 month agoHonestly, you are right it didn’t. CS majors get way less work than Software Engineers where I live. CS is mostly academic and not practical. Maybe different elsewhere, but not a golden ticket. I don’t like working with compsci grads because they don’t know how to make stuff. They don’t know best practices or how to make reusable code and features. Software engineers on the other hand, actually useful contributors.
Nevertheless, Software engineering, just like other engineering fields, way way way over saturated. Mechanical and electrical engineers in places like Toronto are just working Starbucks. You gotta be top of class or there’s nothing for you.

9·1 month agoHonestly, its beyond billionaires. Even upper management and smaller business owners are slopping up the koolaid like its nobody’s business. They feel like they just got that secret weapon to lord over all their employees or fix every problem they couldn’t manage.
There’s really this maliciousness to it. The way they talk down and chew out people objecting or raising concerns. There’s this mask off righteousness and entitlement to them that I’ve rarely seen before.
They believe they are 100% they are in the right and nothing will stop them.

101·1 month agoIts up to you, but trades have very little flexibility. If the job market changes or dries up, you can transfer very little without going out and getting a new trade.

I believe them in that, in so much as I think they are unable to improve their models anymore. Training expenses have been dropping and model improvements have been unimpressive lately. They kinda peaked early this year.
They won’t train on the open internet, because they won’t train at all.
They already trained on everything and employ virtually no scientific experts anymore. They aren’t seeing the jumps they want so they pretend it’s just too dangerous for the public.
