The problem is that they tend to be smaller, which means harder to find.

This suuuucks. We need another big, general instance that doesn’t defed everyone. But I get it, being an admin sounds like a lot of work or I would do it lol. Plus I don’t have place for a server around here. Or do most admins just buy space from the cloud?

Over analysis caveat of the joke
Of course it’s not state media directly in the states, but the same billionaires who own the state own the media, so it turns out all to be the same thing in the end.

The little clip with the meta-commentary on news stories commenting about them was hilarious yet insightful, so I definitely have to watch the full documentary they’re referencing (EDIT: especially if it’s just the 20 minute video you linked. That’s the full video? I thought I heard the word documentary so thought it would be longer).
They poop on heads though, which is negative points for me.
The rest of the world needs to learn from the US’s failure like this ASAP. I think Europe might already be doomed judging by the way the UK and Germany are going, but others might be able to swerve to avoid a fascist future with the right moves.

Just wanted to give an update that I started learning Linux. It’s been a pain in the ass to look up every basic thing I could do in Windows without thinking, but I’m sure I’ll get it down with enough use and googling for every error. Only been using it a couple days so far, but already starting to prefer the console over the UI for some things, thanks to the ability to quickly repeat old commands with the up and down arrow keys. It’s kind of exciting, like I’m starting the first steps to join the Linux club I see so much on Lemmy.
And they should make Mastadon accounts or instances instead, especially if they’re affiliated with the government.
It’s insane to me that public utilities and officials use a private, third-party thing like X for official communications when they could be controlling their own servers.

It is kind of weird thay it hasn’t been done yet, but in that thread they posted it sounded like it’s totally possible at the moment.
