I think most of the people disagreeing with the post are from the USA, which has completely different costs/taxes/prices etc.

In the UK (as the original post is), it depends where you live - our mortgage is about £350 per month (5 bed terrace), but if would have been almost £500 a month without the deposit. Rent in the area is about £600 - £1500 per month, for similar or smaller properties.

Note that this is in Northern UK, in the sort of town sometimes described as “a bit of a shithole”. I could get a train to a town an hour away and the prices would literally double - but the ratio between mortgage and rent would be pretty much the same.

Even with the cost of repairs, and a tiny bit on insurance etc, it’s a significant saving. Also, the repairs actually get done, which was not the experience I had in rented accommodation.

On Google Earth (rather than Google maps), you can view all the previous streetview photos from any location that has them - so the 2012 one won’t be the default one, but you can switch back to it with a few clicks.

All fair points for a motorway/highway/freeway/whatever. I’d mistakenly thought the previous post was referring to a smaller local road with a 55mph limit.

I don’t really care so much about what speed people do on motorways, but I have a massive problem with people doing 40-60mph in a 20-30mph limit residential area. Bear in mind where I live in the UK, the cars are driving 2 metres from the front door of everyone’s houses.

Not personally, no - but the police would only need to catch a handful each day to get things moving a little more safely in the area.

It depends where it was in the country. Even now, after fast travel, radio, television etc, you can still get completely different vowels within 100 miles.

If I took the word “road” and travelled 100 miles either North/South/East/West, I could find it pronounced (as it would sound to me) as reud, raad, rird or roud.

The American Right-Wing Christians don’t seem to care for Jesus - they appear to pretty much ignore everything in the New Testament because it’s “lefty and woke”. They do seem to like the Old Testament bits where you kill/enslave/rape/rob people who are weaker or slightly different from you.

It’s a shame that every sink in every public toilets, workplace toilets or other people’s house still has soap with Sodium Laureth Sulphate in. Even the products that say “gentle on skin” tend to be full of the stuff.

I tried various moisturisers for years with not a lot of effect. Swapping my soap, shower gel and shampoo for ones without SLS in them really made such a difference, and so quickly.
