Looks like the ways they’re doing this is via credit card or account age. I wanted to keep my current phone until it died before switching to something else but fuck me, who knows what nonsense they’ll make us do in the near future.

I was able to update 2 of 3 devices early last year, but couldn’t upgrade my old custom build. I did that due to possible tariffs; didn’t even think about this “AI” BS. Thought may as well just buy a custom build now. Wanted to wait another year, but I won’t be upset no matter what happens with prices if I get it now. I’m not sure my old girl can outlive the return of easily available PC parts. At least I also bought some extra storage over a year ago.

Have the republicans even bothered to give a name for 2028?

I heard someone report Thiel talking about something similar to this, but I could have misunderstood. Either way, listening to him speak; he definitely is cuckoo bananas.

And many of those jobs still require an understanding of higher math/physics. An uneducated electrician is a dead one.

Damn, thought only the US was crazy enough to have ads at the pump. This is a whole other level.

I seriously keep reading LLM as MLM

Hey, you made the choice that was best for you. There are pros and cons for each, and right now my only option is to rent. I am extremely fortunate to have a very below market rate and will take advantage of this time to save all I can.

Yeah, it is a pipe dream. I’m just sick of the unaffordability.

One doesn’t always need to buy a home, but I don’t know your circumstances. Houses should be as affordable as cars, but I can’t even afford to pay on a 250K loan.

I wonder what would happen if everyone suddenly stopped being in debt. Really wish people would just stop feeding the beast.

I bought the latest of some devices earlier this year, but didn’t have cash to buy a completely new PC. I’ve decided if my older desktop breaks, I’ll just have to get a “cheap” laptop & install Linux. Hopefully things stabilize within the next few years as manufacturers shift production.

A few months ago, I did a fresh install of Windows 11 with no access to any personal files, etc, all done on a separate drive. After seeing all of the changes, I am glad I haven’t used it since. Holy moly.
I feel like “having it easier” can be relative. I definitely have it easier than my grandmother who is a black woman born in the late 1930s who only has a high school education. I’ve even had an easier life than my parents in many ways, even if they did achieve the “American Dream”. I may not be able to afford a house right now, but everything else has been easier as a whole so far. I’m in the USA, so we’ll see how the rest of it goes.
ETA: spelling
Hail messed up my paint and the insurance company wanted to total my car. It’s well maintained and still worth $11-13K. No way was I doing that. Found a place that would paint it for me at a cheaper price & paid out of pocket. I just need my car to take me to & from work.

This shit is making me more & more glad I switched back to Linux. I’m even thinking of actually learning to code to continue its support. These businesses are just fully mask off at this point.
Unless it can be a legit personal assistant, I’m not actually interested. Companies hyped AI way too much.

This won’t stop users from removing DRM. There will always be a way to own your e-books.
Apparently my job will be getting rid of our personal local network drives (we each have our own only we can connect to) and moving that to Microsoft one drive. Our IT guy hates the new changes, but the orders come from way above. Not sure how well it will work…
