Supervisor194@lemmy.worldto Technology@lemmy.world•Microsoft CFO calls for 'intensity' in an internal memo, after blowout earningsEnglish7·2 months agoI mean, I don’t disagree that that’s historically what it’s been. But increasingly, it seems like record profits just keep going through the roof no matter what. And record stock market numbers. And record everything. Nothing goes down, not substantially. Negative news seems to have no (net) effect anymore.
Supervisor194@lemmy.worldto Technology@lemmy.world•Microsoft CFO calls for 'intensity' in an internal memo, after blowout earningsEnglish55·2 months agoAt what point will we look at these numbers with skepticism? When not one worker is left who can afford their services nor one customer left who wants anything to do with their utterly shit “products” - but they still blow out the quarter with 100 billion? At what point will society recognize that this money can’t possibly represent anything actually real? Will it matter if all of us starve to death and only billionaires are left if the Microsofts of the world will still be able to post 200 billion dollar “profits”?
I’m actually curious. Because I personally think that’s increasingly what all this is. Fake as shit. Some combination of algorithms, cryptocurrency, dark pools and I dunno, the Illuminati I guess.

I spend less and less time on Reddit now because every time I’m there I eventually get struck with a “this isn’t real people” feeling after reading something. It will always be either mundane repetitive bullshit or yet another post demanding civil war or stoking a feeling of helplessness.
Lemmy and Mastodon are slow AF but they still feel mostly real.

No, I was serious, although after looking into it, I am surprised that hardware makes up 72% of their income. Perhaps they could make up the 28% software revenue shortfall with innovative new hardware and still maintain that 3.06T market cap, eh?
Supervisor194@lemmy.worldto Technology@lemmy.world•Proton joins suit against Apple for predatory practices that harm developers and consumersEnglish62·3 months agoProton cannot even link to FAQ or customer support pages from its apps, as Apple believes it’s possible that users will then navigate from the support page to a pricing page and upgrade their accounts without paying Apple its fee.
I didn’t realize this either.
Yeah, this also is why Apple has been so sluggish on PWAs (and why they won’t allow third party browsers). There is literally nothing that can be done in an app that can’t be done quicker and easier as a PWA these days. But how is Apple going to make any money if you can publish your own app and take your own payments? They would then become a hardware vendor and that would absolutely ruin them as a company.
Apple will throw everything they’ve got at this to attempt to maintain the status quo.

If this is correct, then the market will never outright crash again. Therefore, no one, from this point forward, should take have any notion that the stock market will punish Trump (or anybody, really).
Ultimately, the stock market will fluctuate for dramatic effect, but will continue on a steady upward trend completely decoupled from any particular reality.
Oh would you look at that, it’s up 353 points today. 🧐
Ironic that the only way to get a government to put the screws to billionaires and their shit platforms is to threaten the hegemony of the party that used the very same platforms to ratfuck their way to the top.
