Actually it makes sense to calculate “analytically” (symbolically) as long as possible and only after that doesn’t help anymore, go to “numerical” calculations.

Like - a streaming service where i pay $10/month and 90% of that goes to the studios/artists that actually produce the anime? I would take that.
But right now i’m worried that i pay $10/month and 90% of that goes to the shareholders of the streaming provider as “profit” while the studio gets almost nothing.
gandalf_der_12te@discuss.tchncs.deto Technology@lemmy.world•Crunchyroll Faces Cancelation: Why Anime Fans Are Choosing Piracy After Latest UpdateEnglish1·1 day agoWell the advantage of having the subtitles be a text overlay over the video is that the subtitles can be separated from the video; like, you can switch them off and on and change languages (which i sometimes do as i speak multiple languages and am interested in how they translated it) without having to store multiple GB-sized video files - one for each language - for the same episode.
gandalf_der_12te@discuss.tchncs.deto Technology@lemmy.world•Crunchyroll Faces Cancelation: Why Anime Fans Are Choosing Piracy After Latest UpdateEnglish2·1 day agoNetflix makes dope original productions in my experience; I’ve watched many of their shows and enjoyed them.
It’s not wrong to give money to studios that produce good content. What’s important IMO is that the money really goes to the studios, and not to some big banks trying to leech off it.
gandalf_der_12te@discuss.tchncs.deto Technology@lemmy.world•Crunchyroll Faces Cancelation: Why Anime Fans Are Choosing Piracy After Latest UpdateEnglish5·1 day agoI’m looking for an ethical anime streaming service rn, and i’d be willing to pay for it (like, $10/month). Any options at all?
Like, “ethical” means that the money is used to keep the studio running that is producing the anime; not that the money goes to some big banks to profit off anime.

gandalf_der_12te@discuss.tchncs.deto Lemmy Shitpost@lemmy.world•Unified Theory of American Reality202·2 days agoI mean i just want to note for a second that the aging retardant properties of humanity are one of the great miracles that puts us above other species.
Most other mammal species, including dogs, cats, camels, zebras, horses, cattle, sheep, whatever farm animal/pet you can think of typically lives no longer than 20 years, while for humans it’s routinely 80 years, about 4x as long.
That, it turns out, is one of humanity’s great strengths. We age significantly slower, and that includes a significantly longer childhood. Most feral animals grow up and reach puberty within 1-3 years, while for humans it takes at least 12 years (even longer if you wait to be socially accepted as an “adult”). This gives us more time to play, figure things out, learn, and develop. It is for this reason that we’re able to pull off more amazing things than other species, because our long lifes warrant that getting a long, proper education is worth it. Because if we only lived for 20 years, it would hardly be worth it to study till you’re 25 years old.
So, aging slower, and staying childish for longer, is actually one of humanity’s great strengths. It is unfortunate, i believe, that we’re trying to remove that human specialty in these days and trying to make people grow up faster.

This reads a lot to me like Sokrates’ speech that the children are all spoiled today. I.e. it has always been that way but people continuously assume that they have it especially bad in that regard.

AI cannot use logic or reason. Everything it outputs is a hallucination, even if it’s sometimes accurate. You cannot trust anything it outputs.
Research shows that - while people think having more people in the household gets the housework done faster - babies actually cause an approximate 100% increase in time spent on housework.
Children cannot use logic or reason. Everything they output is brabbling, even if it sometimes resembles actual works. You cannot trust anything they say. Parents are stupid for having them. (/s)
Developers see AI as a “child” that might need many years to grow up, but it’s still worth all the trouble they go through. It’s an emotional choice, not a rational one.

what if the offender is located in some other country where there are no sexual offense laws? i’m not so sure on the details but such a location certainly exists. then you can’t really get them out of the way. but on the other hand, the internet has no real borders so they can still connect to the rest of the world.
essentially, some kind of content-warning system needs to be established for certain platforms that are not guaranteed clean. this might affect gaming platforms, such as roblox. either they implement better quality controls or they don’t get a “clean”-label.
parents can then set a checkbox that allows their children’s computer to only show “clean” content.

actually, lots of people are taking this approach
actually, restricting what operating system you can run on your smartphone is exactly that. you can only run stock android/iOS (if you don’t want a whole lot of other stresses) and those in turn restrict what apps you can run on them …
it’s not a good way, let me tell you, i just wrote an article about why this is so bad yesterday (it’s not finished yet or i’d post it here)
to sum it up: we need generic computing devices (“general purpose computing device”) that you can run any software on. (this includes installing any operating system you want trouble-free). there’s philosophical background to that idea, including “the software must act in the interest of the user, and since the hardware can’t know the user’s interest, it must be open to any software”.
right now, android/apple phones are not that. they’re targeted at one specific operating system. we need a label “general purpose computing device” that is applied as an attestation of good quality to phones that can run any operating system (trouble-free). this especially includes unlocking and re-locking the bootloader.
possibly this isn’t for everyone, but it should at least be a possibility. :D
