After 2016 I spent a lot of tine on reddit talking to Trump voters to understand why.

Overwhelmingly they believe things that aren’t true. Basic misconceptions of the world cascading in on one another culminating into the stupidest vote of their life.

One guy thought Obama was a vain man because he named his healthcare plan Obamacare. When I told him the healthcare plan was called the Affordable Care Act, and that Republicans and the media called it Obamacare as a way to hurt it, gis brain couldn’t process it because why would the media parrot Republican talking points if they were all biased towards Democrats?

You can understand how this individual would make this mistake. He pays just enough attention to be misinformed. Three generations of right-wing propaganda, the world’s most disciplined messaging machine repeating the same lies and half-truths have absolutely run roughshod over this type of person.

Mamdami is forcing children to participate in a heinous Islamic ritual called Al-gebra. It’s like, demonic spells or something.

Excuse me… all the links above use Arabic numbers: they are unreliable.

Thank you for your attention to this matter

I refuse arabic numbers. What the fuck is 2? 7? 9??? These are all made up concepts invented to corrupt the mind of people.

Look at how elegant these look instead: 10, 111, 1001.

In all seriousness thank God for the Arabic number system. It would be a nightmare to use Roman numerals for math

AN OVERWHELMING MAJORITY OF SCIENTIFIC STUDIES PROVE DEFINITIVELY THAT RIGHT WING BELIEFS ARE HEAVILY CORRELATED WITH LOW INTELLIGENCE:

AKA dumb and ignorant people believe more lies. Trump loves the uneducated.

The Arab Numerals joke is old. I heard this over two decades ago in the wake of 9/11 and I’m sure it’s not the first iteration.

It’s funny because the anti muslims are ignorant of the contributions muslims made to society and language, and are unaware those are the numerals we use.

It’s funny because we keep pointing it out, and every fucking individual conservative shitslinger has had this lesson multiple times, and it never seems to stick.

I know, it’s getting dumber too. A lot dumber.

Many of their influencers, it’s not that they don’t know, they don’t care. They are playing the sheep, and they’ve been taught from their influencers and leaders how to do it, and truth plays little to no part in any of it.

Years ago a German satire show interviewed random people on the street. They asked them what they think about the fact that “children are now forced to learn arabic numbers in German Schools”. The interviewers flawlessly baited a bunch of idiots into exposing their mindless xenophobia on TV

It’s actually something that has been done pretty much by anyone in power in the past who was trying to consolidate their position without actually giving the people what they want.

Hitler’s regime started by rounding up scientists and scholars purely to make sure nobody got any ideas that were detrimental to his power.

It’s just sad that the voters for (extremist) right people don’t see that the endgame is just for a select group, not for all, and they see themselves as part of that select group whilst they’re actually part of the other.

So MAGA folk think they’re part of that elite group that will benefit from right wing dismantling of social programs and not part of poor immigrants whilst they’re actually economically closer to those poor immigrants. Not just America, though, Germany is going in that direction as well right now and in Europe more and more of these voices are being heard.

I was honestly surprised when I visited Egypt for the first time and discovered they have different symbols for numbers in Arabic. Also, they look kind of the same as the one used with Latin alphabet, but there are some tricks like ٥ is 5 and ٦ is 6, so yeah … you have to learned them, you can’t just guess.
